Laylat Ul-Qadr Amaals

Amaals to do on Laylat Ul-Qadr | Night of Power

Crowning Glory of Ramadan

Laylatul Qadr is the crowning glory of the holy month of Ramadan. It is associated with the sending down of the Qur’an Majeed, the last Book of Allah on His last Prophet Muhammad for the guidance of mankind. The Qur’an Majeed
Ramadan is the Summary of All months. It is the Summary of all the lives of people. It teaches you the purpose of life to achieve Taqwa which shall lead to Allah Ta’la’s pleasure. describes this Night.

The Night of Power is the night of spiritual bliss. Our Prophet is reported to have said concerning Ramadan:
“Verily this month has come to you; and therein is a night which is better than a thousand Months. Whosoever is deprived of it, is deprived of all good; and none is deprived of its good except a totally unfortunate person”. [Ibn Majah]

“Whosoever stands up (in prayer) at the Night of Power out of faith and hopeful of reward, all his past sins will be forgiven.”

Better than a thousand months

A thousand months is equivalent to 83 years and 4 months. Fortunate is the person who spends this night in prayer. The man or woman, who prays for the whole night during this Night, will deserve blessings and reward for the period as if he or she had been praying for eighty-three years and four months consecutively. Since the Night of Power is better than one thousand months no one can measure the extent of how much better it is.

Exclusivity

The Holy Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said: “Laylatul Qadr has been bestowed by Allah Ta’la to my Ummah (People). It was not given to any people before this.” [Dur-Mansoor].

Which night is it?

Although there are different reports in different traditions regarding the exact night, it is almost unanimous that the blessed night occurs in one of the last ten nights of Ramadan and more probably in one of the last ten odd nights i.e. 21st, 23rd, 25th 27th or 29th night.

The popular opinion is, however, in favour of the 27th Night of Ramadan but that is not certain. The traditions indicate that it is to be sought in one of the last ten nights and preferably in the last five odd nights. It was therefore the practice of the Holy Prophet peace be upon him and his companions to make I’tikaaf in the Mosque for the whole time offering Divine service during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Hazrat Aisha (r) reported that the Apostle of Allah Ta’la said: “Search for the Blessed Night in the odd (nights) from the last ten (nights) of Ramadan” [Bukhari].

Ramadan is the Summary of All months. It is the Summary of all the lives of people. It teaches you the purpose of life to achieve Taqwa which shall lead to Allah Ta’la’s pleasure.

Allah has given us life to live, and has instructed us to fast from the sins of the body, mind and soul. In the end, when our life is drained to a close, death is its reward as even death is a gift for the believer. As the taste of death is bitter but when its sweetness reaches the heart by experiencing the greetings of the angels and meeting Allah and His Messenger peace be upon him, joy will fill the hearts of the true believers.

Its feast begins and never ends, as all blessings have no end even in the hereafter. Similarly, those who violate the commands of Allah, the Exalted fulfil their desire and break the fast by sinning and desires of Duniya, they shall ta~ duniy~ which is bitter to the righteous but the evil people believe it to be the sweetest of taste: How deceived they have become, they chose to taste the duniyah [Temporary desire] over hereafter which is forever. These people will taste torture in the hereafter for violating the commands of Allah, for immersing themselves in heedless.

We should remind ourselves and others of the dangers of failing to fast [and follow the command], as those who miss one fast in Ramadan need to resolve and make it up. What to say about those who break the spiritual fast by committing sins during Ramadan? They shall have to make up their days in the fire [For those who fail to repent]”.

From this we learn the true essence of fasting, abstaining not only from food and drink but abstaining from the evils of the body, mind, heart and soul. This is the true spiritual fast, connecting us to the presence of Allah Ta’la the Exalted and conditioning us to choose the hereafter over the temporal desires of this world.

 nights?

In the previous nations and past years, the secrets of Ramadan and the blessed night of power were hidden. This Ummah was the blessed nation to be privileged with the Month of Ramadan. Many of the previous nations lived for hundreds of years [Although they wished to be in the nation which you all live through].

Allah, the Exalted has blessed this Ummah with blessings throughout the year. Ramadan is one Month but its value is better the a thousand months. It is equal to living more than 83 years [83 years and 3 months].

People ask for a long life to do good deeds. Ramadan is one Month yet its reward is better than 1000 months. It is the king of all the Months and its days and nights are more blessed than all the other months.

Many of the previous ummahs have lived hundreds of years, Allah [Azzawajal] has also given us short lives but its blessings outweigh the people who have been living long lives. So this Month is as though you have been living for more than 83 years of life. So why do waste such blessings, one good deed is equal to 70 times worth of deeds. What to say about the night of power, it is equal to all the nights of Ramadan, for those fortunate ones who find it.

Our lives may be short in number compared to previous nations but the blessings of night and day outweigh our life in ibadaah and reward.

HazratAisha (r) has narrated another saying: “I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me if I were to find a Night of Power, what should I recite therein?” Holy Prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings be upon him advised her to recite:

O Allah! You are Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me. (Bukhari).

Optional Voluntary Prayers & Amaals for the Night of Power

One can perform different forms of worship throughout the night. Below are some examples of amaal.

1) Two Rakaats of Salahtul Tawbah with true Repentance, begging, regretting and truly submitting to change one’s ways from darkness to light, from evil to righteousness. T truly beseeching from your past for all the shortcomings in following Allah Ta’la’s command and the shortcomings of following the lifestyle of his final Prophet ﷺ. Also, seek forgiveness for the shortcomings of following one Murshid / Guide who has surely supported you in reaching Allah Ta’la’s closeness.

2) Two Rakaats of Salatul Shukr with thankfulness of the heart for the blessings which Allah Ta’la has bestowed, the blessings of Ramadan, the night of power, the Murshid/guides who have reminded you of my ways and all the blessings seen and unseen. One can never show thankfulness towards Allah for everything which Allah Ta’la has bestowed upon us, as the blessings shall always outweigh any thankfulness one does.

3) Two Rakaats of Salatul Istikhara, beg Allah to guide you to the pleasure of Allah Ta’la through this life so that you may find the power of the secret of Prophet’s ﷺ footsteps to the kingdom of Allah Ta’la. As one is always in need of guidance, the darkness of oneself obscures the path. Always plea to Allah to clear the road of Duniyah to the pleasure of Allah [Azzawajal].

4) Two Rakaats of Salatul Hajjah, the prayer of need, beg Allah Ta’la for his closeness, his pleasure, and the power of want/desire for Allah Ta’la to be inside your hearts. One should leave all other false gods which you have relied upon in the past, the reliance on people, society, government and oneself. Now truly rely on Allah Ta’la and beg to return to his closeness the way one was in the world of spirits.

One should pray each Rakaats with the following concept:

After the prayers have been performed one should recite the following Tasbih:

One should imagine oneself leaving this life, walking towards Allah’s kingdom. Imagine the body is being engraved with the words of Allah [Azzawajal]. Imagine your body is becoming the letters of your request which is engraved [Not just in one’s body but the heart is the one which shows your emotions for this request].

Imagine your body as the paper with which you write your feelings for all the shortcomings and shortfalls in following Allah Ta’la’s command. Imagine the blessed words [Tasbi Amaals] slowly beginning to illuminate your body as your request is being answered with the blessed words of forgiveness with Allah Ta’la’s blessed names.

Imagine the darkness being ejected out and radiated light is being placed inside. Imagine yourself walking, running, and flying towards Allah Ta’la’s closeness. Those who want Allah shall receive his closeness and mercy.

One should perform the Mediation in the blessed name of Allah for 10 minutes Imagine the blessed name of Allah Ta’la is being engraved on your entire body until it becomes illuminated inside your heart. Call Allah [Azzawajal] with your heart to keep you always in their remembrance. Let this blessed name dominate your entire body [on what you see, what you hear, all organs, for what you live for in life] so that your entire body mind and heart are always living in Allah Ta’la’s remembrance until death.

[For too long your heart has been away from the true remembrance of Allah so now bring it to Allah Ta’la so the light of remembrance can be inserted inside].

One should perform the following Dhikr during the night:

1. ‘Allah, Allah’ for 20 minutes The seeker should call Allah with all his body, heart and mind, enabling all to become in Allah Ta’la’s name.

Imagine you are in the presence of Allah. How will you beg forgiveness from Him?

[Will you tell Him your shortcomings? Who you are and what you have been doing? Where will you start, by words or with tears or with both? Allah is all aware but are you aware of what you have been doing?]

What Inner words will you use to call them?
[Will you call Allah Ta’la with empty words or will you call them with your heart, how will you call them? Will you blame others or will you admit and blame yourself for your entire shortcoming?]

Completely submit with repentance, in shamefulness of not following Allah Ta’la’s command. Imagine you are walking and then crawling towards Allah Ta’la’s pleasure. Imagine the light from Allah Ta’la’s name entering your memory/heart/soul dominating
into words of remembrance. What will you do to be forgiven, how far will you go to please Him?

Allah just wants one thing from you all, it is your heart. So give them your hearts and you shall have it all in both worlds

2. ‘Allahumma innaka affuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni’ – for 20 minutes

One should call Allah with the words of the heart and soul. It is the key to sending this request in the pleasure of Allah. Imagine you are in prostration in the blessed presence of Allah Ta’la, begging for all the shortcomings of one’s actions and deeds. Beg Allah ﷻ with the tears of the body and heart with the cries of one’s soul in the realm of returning in the presence of Allah Ta’la [There is nowhere to return but only in the presence of Allah Ta’la]. Allah Ta’la has never forgotten us nor has He abandoned us, but always loves us and wishes to forgive us. But it is we who turn away and never look back. Now it is time to look back and face your shortcomings and return to Allahﷻ with regret, with shame, with acceptance, with effort and power to change into the means of Allah Ta’la’s pleasure. Those who truly return and beg shall be forgiven with the chance to change their deeds into a person with a clean slate. One should also send Salaam and Durood upon the companions of Prophet ﷺ in the best of ways on this special night. One should reflect on himself using silent communication from the heart (Munajaat) for 10 minutes One should present his defects in Allah Ta’la’s presence and beg for a solution and cure in resolving one’s relationship with his Lord. It is surely by giving complete submission and preference over all things. Talk with Allah [Azzawajal] about the problems, presenting particular desires of sin inside his heart and the struggle which you are facing in reaching Allah. For surely Allah Ta’la shall show you the solutions and cure. Those who ponder shall see the cure in the path of Tareeqah Muhammadiyah and in Sunnah.
